T.I.P. lights up the 2nd Solar Energy Festival

The Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) joined hands with My Shelter Foundation in celebrating the foundation’s Liter of Light project’s event – the Solar Energy Festival – held last August 10 in T.I.P. Quezon City.

The second Solar Energy Festival, made possible through the partnership of T.I.P. represented by its Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Cynthia Llanes and My Shelter Foundation’s Executive Director, Illac Angelo Diaz, was held in the T.I.P. QC campus with the goal of producing solar lights in celebration of the International Year of Light 2015. It was the continuation of the first Solar Energy Festival held in Makati City last August 2, where T.I.P. officers, faculty members, and students also participated.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing between T.I.P. and My Shelter Foundation attended by T.I.P. President, Dr. Elizabeth Quirino-Lahoz, was also held during the event in T.I.P. QC.

T.I.P. faculty and student volunteers from different engineering programs of T.I.P. Manila and T.I.P. QC namely from the Electronics Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Industrial Engineering (IE), Computer Engineering (CpE), and Civil Engineering (CE) programs all came together to help assemble solar-powered lamp posts. At the end of the event, they were able to build 31 lamp posts.

Illac expressed the importance of each individual’s ability to help in a big way by working together. He also thanked the T.I.P. volunteers for participating in the event. “Today, bawat isa sa inyo, hindi lang kayo mga volunteer, mga solar engineer kayo para sa amin (Today, each one of you, you are not only volunteers. To us, you are solar engineers.),” he said.

With the slogan, “Solar Power to the People,” Liter of Light’s Solar Energy Festival in T.I.P. highlighted not only the workmanship of T.I.P.’s engineering community but also the spirit of volunteerism in each and every one of the participants.
