TIP Benchmarks at Monash University on Outcomes-Based Education

The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) in coordination with the Southeast Asian Minister of Education, Organization, Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) visited the Monash University on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. This is part of the action research on outcomes-based education and benchmarking program in top-ranking Australian universities for the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP). The seven-day capacity building and study visit in Australia, participated by 19 key academic officers, aimed to further develop the capability of TIP on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE).

Monash University is a founding member of the Group of Eight, the coalition of Australia’s most prestigious research-intensive universities and ranked amongst the world’s most prestigious universities. Monash is rank 91st top universities to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking (2013-2014), 69th to the 2013/2014 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings and at the top 150 world universities according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities complied by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The TIP group learned Monash University’s best practices on industry linkages, collaborative teaching and learning activities, conduct of student activities on multidisciplinary settings, and assessment of student outcomes.

The TIP group also visited the University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, The Institution of Engineers, Australia (IEAust), and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). This is in support of TIP’s thrust to ensure the delivery of quality instruction through continuous capacity building of its academic personnel. The activity provided valuable inputs and broadened the perspective of the participants along outcomes-based education implementation.
