TIP Officials meet with the Institution of Engineers, Australia

The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) in coordination with the Southeast Asian Minister of Education, Organization, Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) visited the Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust) on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. This is part of the action research on outcomes-based education and benchmarking program in top-ranking Australian universities for the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP). The seven-day capacity building and study visit in Australia, participated by 19 key academic officers, aimed to further develop the capability of TIP on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE).

IEAust is the professional body of engineers in Australia. It is the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers regarded as trusted professionals in Australia and worldwide. It is also responsible for the accreditation of undergraduate engineering programs in higher education institutions in Australia. The IEAust group shared trends on engineering accreditation and cross border practices and its implications for Australia and Philippine higher education institutions. The IEAust industry required competencies and performance indicators were also discussed.

The TIP group also visited the University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of Sydney, and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). This is in support of TIP’s thrust to ensure the delivery of quality instruction through continuous capacity building of its academic personnel. The activity provided valuable inputs and broadened the perspective of the participants along outcomes-based education implementation.
