From being a market vendor to washing jeepneys in the province of Antique, Emmanuel Fernandez has come a long way. Today, he is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the We Lead Group of Companies, which focuses in providing solutions, products, and services in telecommunications, energy, and water, as well as in the land development, hospitality business, food, and agriculture industries.

But the road to his success was not an easy one. Back in his school years, he got expelled from the first university he went to. Fernandez thought it was the end of his dream of raising his family from poverty. But the Technological Institute of the Philippines–Manila opened its doors for him and he got another chance to finish his education.

In 1991, he finally marched to receive his diploma as he graduated from his course of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. At 38 years old, he established his own company. On April 22 and 23, Engineer Fernandez attended the graduation ceremonies of his alma mater – this time as the commencement speaker.

At the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City, before 2, 842 graduates of T.I.P. QC and T.I.P. Manila, their family members and loved ones, Engr. Fernandez shared his story, reminding them that success does takes grit and determination.

He encouraged the graduates to strive for excellence in their chosen fields and start a business so that they can create job opportunities for their fellow Filipinos.

“Let your profession and future business become your platform to be an icon of hope to the hopeless. Wealth and fame passes, but God and the impact we leave in others remain,” Engr. Fernandez ended.
