Top caliber professionals grace T.I.P.'s online teaching certificate program

The Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) has pulled in a distinguished set of guest lecturers for its 30th teaching certificate program (TCP) offering, a pioneering post-baccalaureate program with focus on online teaching and learning designed to help aspiring and experienced teachers cope in the new normal.

Eleven accomplished professionals from renowned universities and organizations comprise this year's roster, namely:

  • Dr. Teresita P. Pedrajas, former Prefect of Student Affairs, San Beda College
  • Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, Director, SEAMEO Secretariat, Bangkok, Thailand
  • Dr. Allan B. De Guzman, Professor, University of Santo Tomas
  • Fr. Johnny C. Go, S.J., Director, Science and Art of Learning and Teaching (SALT) Institute, Ateneo de Manila University
  • Dr. Carlo P. Magno, CEO, Center for Learning and Assessment Development - Asia
  • Ms. Ma. Ana Liza V. Serrana, Training Specialist Associate, Learning Management Office, SEAMEO Innotech
  • Ms. Michelle C. Sarabillo, Senior Associate, Learning Management Office, SEAMEO Innotech
  • Dr. Clotilde N. Arcangel, Former Dean, College of Education, University of Santo Tomas
  • Dr. Nelia G. Prieto, Professor, Magna Anima Teachers College
  • Ms. Chiqui Colet, Vice Principal, Peak School, Hong Kong
  • Dr. Grace S. Koo, Professor, University of the Philippines Diliman

The 18-unit online TCP began last June 25, 2021 with classes set thrice a week and scheduled only after office hours via T.I.P's official learning platform, Canvas.

The program is deemed to provide enrollees—connecting from different parts of the country and around the world—with the much-needed skills and competencies to conduct effective remote teaching on top of honing their intrinsic abilities in a traditional class setup.

"I am excited for our enrollees because of our sterling lineup of guest speakers. I have no doubt that we will be able to produce excellent teachers for all levels of education," said T.I.P. President Dr. Elizabeth QuirinoLahoz.

The T.I.P. TCP was first introduced in 2006 – a year after the school's College of Education was established – with the goal of influencing basic education outcomes. This year's offering catered to the need for new normal-ready instructors following the change in modality brought about by the pandemic.

The next batch will start September 2021, and is also open to non-education degree holders who wish to qualify for the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT) or who just want to develop competence in online teaching.
