T.I.P.ian wins ArchiNext 2018

Students from the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) Quezon City won in the recently held ArchiNext 2018: HCG Young Designers’ Competition (AYDC). The announcement was made during the HCG Awards Night at the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Construction Expo (CONEX) 2018 held at the SMX Convention Center on April 13, 2018.

This year’s design challenge was entitled “SIBOL: A Community-Based Recovery Home for Drug Dependents”. Sibol is envisioned to be operated by cities or municipal government units and shall have four (4) basic components/services that include Therapeutic Services, Vocational and Education, Stay-in Residential Services, and Administrative with Support Services Office. The designed facility must foster a friendly-environment that is conducive to the healing of patients. Likewise, it must have a safe and secure environment which should be sensitive to gender and culture. Key criteria for judging were Green Design, Economical, Disaster Resilient, and Innovativeness.

Among the 569 entries in the competition, the top three finalists were chosen to vie for the title of Grand Winner. Mike Spencer R. Cerbito, a 4th year architect student from T.I.P. Quezon City was declared as the Grand Winner and the Best Presentation Awardee. Two more students from T.I.P. Quezon City were awarded - Christian Lawrence C. Fedilo who placed 9th and Janet B. Vizcarra who won the Most Innovative Design Award. All winning participants received a plaque and certificate. Furthermore, the winners in the competition each received cash prizes. Cerbito was rewarded with 100,000 pesos for being the Grand Winner with a 20,000 pesos counterpart cash prize for T.I.P. and 10,000 pesos for Best Presentation. Fedillo and Vizcarra each received a cash prize of 10,000 for their respective awards.

ArchiNext is an annual competition which aims to encourage architecture students to come up with sustainable and sound architectural designs. The competition challenged future architects to think outside the box and showcase their limitless creativity. ArchiNext Young Designers Competition or AYDC recognizes the desire and hard work of up-and-coming Architects and emboldens them to transform from industry learners to industry trailblazers. The ArchiNEXT Young Awardee is envisioned to contribute inspiring trends not just to the profession’s growth but also to nation-building.
