T.I.P. fresh grad is Cisco Global Cybersecurity Scholar

Jose Antonio Raphael Flores, student achiever and Computer Engineering graduate of the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) Quezon City campus, was recently named as scholar of the Cisco Global Cybersecurity Scholarship program.

The Cisco Global Cybersecurity Scholarship program was established as an answer to the ever increasing cybersecurity issues organizations encountered around the world. It aims to increase the pool of IT professionals with critical cybersecurity proficiency. In the said program, Cisco will provide free training, mentoring, and testing designed to help awarded scholars earn Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Cyber Ops certification and hone their skills needed for the job role of security operations center analyst.

“The moment I saw the write-up about the scholarship and because I am aware of the increasing cyber-attacks in our country and all over the world, I knew I needed to be part of it,” Flores said. He registered for the Cisco Global Cybersecurity Scholarship program in July 2016.

A month after taking the skills assessment for the program, Flores was informed that he successfully advanced to the final step of the qualification process to determine if he will be one of the limited few to be granted the scholarship. “I believe I did well in the assessment because most of the topics in the test were taught to us in school,” he explained. In December 2016, Flores was accepted into the program. He is set to take the 90-day Cisco Global Cybersecurity Scholarship program next year, from April to July 2018.

Flores continues to challenge and open himself to new knowledge and learning. The young computer engineer has plans to take the CCNA Cyber Ops certification exam after finishing the scholarship program.

To T.I.P. CpE students, Flores advises, “Take every opportunity that is in front of you. Expect to do hard work; you’ll never know how you might surprise yourself.”
