A team of students from the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) Manila, College of Information Technology Education (CITE) bagged the grand prize in the first AppCon2019.

At the competition’s awarding ceremony held on April 11 at San Beda University, the winning team received Php100,000 cash prize, a plaque, and medals for their entry, the Metro Manila Road Traffic Recommendation System (MMARRS).

Inspired by the students’ experiences and the challenges they encountered in their daily commute, the MMARRS was developed as a mobile application that offers commuters the best and fastest routes possible to their destination given the traffic situation by using artificial intelligence.

The team behind the mobile application is composed of John Eddie Macias, Erika Bondoc, Villezer Naculangga, and Francis Caparas. According to T.I.P. Manila CITE program chair Alexander Hernandez, each team member had their respective roles in the mobile development, which helped them handle the competition well.

Their entry bested others from the University of Makati, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila, University of the Philippines-Manila, Jose Rizal University, Asia Pacific College, and Mapua University.

AppCon2019 is an application development contest sponsored by Japan-based OTIS Corporation and ITHured, an IT human resource development consulting company. The competition aims to find talents or partners with a spirit of entrepreneurship who can develop web or mobile application to resolve social issues in the Philippines.
