T.I.P. Computer Science student placed third at the ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2019

Giorgio Armani Magno, a 2nd year BS Computer Science student from the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) Manila, secured 3rd place in the Business and Finance category of the recently concluded ICDL Asia Digital Challenge Grand Final 2019 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last September 10-12, 2019.

Magno represented the Philippines in the said international competition after he got 1st place in the National ICDL Digital Challenge in the same category last June 11, 2019 at Treston International College, Taguig.

A total of 20 students from the Philippines, Bhutan, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in the competition. Magno competed against seven students in the Business and Finance Track – Tertiary category.

In the project given by ICDL Asia, participants were tasked to be the general manager of a travel company. They were given one month to analyze the financial data and present to their board of directors a proposal of their company’s business direction for the next three to five years.

When asked about the struggles he encountered during the competition, Magno admitted, “I struggled the most in the business part of the competition because we needed accounting skills to interpret and make sense of business data” Magno also mentioned that the competition was challenging because some of the participants were already taking their master’s degree or are already in a career in line to the given project scenario.

Despite all the struggles he encountered while preparing his presentation for ICDL Asia 2019, Magno remained positive and worked harder under the guidance of his coach Mr. Alfio Regla, BS Computer Science faculty member (T.I.P. Manila).

Aside from the great experience, Magno also brought home a trophy and certificate.
