T.I.P. Choral Society Tops Folk Song Category at AOV International Choral Festival

The Technological Institute of the Philippines Choral Society (T.I.P. CS) won 1st place in the Folk Song Category and 2ndplace in the Mixed Choir Category of the recently concluded fourth Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival held last July 18-21, 2019 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

T.I.P. CS received two plaques and the most coveted AOV International Choral Festival trophy, an elegant large conch shell with a wide opening designed by 2000 CCP Thirteen Artists Awardee Katti Sta. Ana.

T.I.P. Choral Society’s winning pieces in the Folk Song Category were Chilean De Punta Y Taco by Ward Swingle. Moluccan Hela Rotan by Ken Steven, and Visayan Sinulog by Dyzon Pesquera.The group performed Fuggi, O Mio Core by Heinrich Schutz,Laudate Dominum by Josef Rheinberger, Sanctus by Ken Steven, and Tempus by Eudenice V. Palaruan in the Mixed Choir Category.

The 34 competing members of the T.I.P. CS were composed of four students and one alumna from T.I.P. Manila and nineteen students and ten alumni from T.I.P. Quezon City. Cyro Bon Cloui Moral, T.I.P. CS Director and member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, conducted the group.

The T.I.P. CS also joined the AOV International Choral Festival in 2013, 2015, and 2017 where they won in different categories. “AOV is our most awaited competition because not only it is an international competition, but it is one of the most renowned choral competitions in the Philippines. It was a great experience meeting various choirs from different cultures, who share the same passion and love for music,” said John Denver Dela Cruz, President of T.I.P. CS, when asked about the experience. This year, they competed against 11 other groups from Poland, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines sponsored the Andrea O. Veneracion International Competition to honor the National Artist for Music, Prof. Andrea O. Veneracion, founder and choirmaster of the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers.
