T.I.P. hosts the 2016 Sikat Challenge Luzon Regional Inspire Conference

The Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) recently hosted the 2016 Sikat Design Challenge Luzon Regional Inspire Conference on August 18, 2016 at the T.I.P. Quezon City campus. The conference serves as the kick-off event of the 2nd cycle of the Sikat Design Challenge organized by the Sikat Solar Challenge Foundation, Inc. (SSCFI).

Through the Sikat Design Challenge, SSCFI harnesses the creativity and skills of undergraduate students in developing practical and sustainable renewable energy (RE) solutions for rural communities that have no access to electricity, transforming participants into change agents for the nation.

“The competition is not about the most innovative technology, but how the technology can impact the lives of the people in these communities,” said Dr. Arthur de Guia, SSCFI president.

The conference was attended by participating students and faculty advisers from various Luzon schools including Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, Batanes State College, Batangas State University, Bulacan State University, De La Salle University Manila, Mapua Institute of Technology, Palawan State University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Technological Institute of the Philippines, University of the Philippines Diliman, University of the Philippines Los Baños, and University of Santo Tomas.

Representing T.I.P. in this year’s Sikat Challenge is Engr. Ronnie M. Dysangco (faculty adviser), together with student team members: Paul Vincent S. Nonat, Niel Jon Carl D. Aguel, Erica Lois H. Vinculado, Michael Daryl P. Mayo, Eduardo M. Narciso Jr., and Ana Luz L. Callao.
